These are very quiet and beautiful. The male is in the forground, his stomach is yellow. The cock has all the colors of the rainbow and is simply gorgeous. As you can see the female is dull by comparison. They are about 10.5 inches from the top of the head to the tip of the tail. The tail itself is 5.5 inches long. One little known characteristic is that the make excellent surrogate parents as long as you place the egg in the nest box with little disturbance to the hen. If the egg hatches she will care for the baby as if it were her own. These birds are ideal for beginners as they are so easy to care for. There are several color mutations including lutino, cinnamon, fallow, blue and pastel blue. Some with white and yellow with red eyes. Perhaps  the most common is the the yellow red rump.
