This species is becoming more popular than ever. Once when first
introduced they were found to be very shy and phobic. With hand raising the
shyness has dissipated for the most part,
so much, in fact, that they are considered the best talkers of the
species. Breeding pairs are dimorphic (meaning you can tell the difference
between the male and female by the color). The one pictured here is male as
you can see that the "Red (Orange) Belly" is quite bright. Females
don't have the bright orange belly and you will notice that they have a lot
of grey and green instead. They appear to enjoy hiding in a box if one is
present, as they are still shy. This particular beauty is the most likely to
talk of all the Poicephalus species and are well known for their easy to
understand voice. |
